My Visit
Perlita Dario Borje*
During the
Christmas holidays, 2008, I visited various schools in the Candon
School District which have been adopted by Annak ti Candon
International under its Computerization Program. I visited
elementary schools and high schools.
Normally,
in the past I visited relatives and friends in Candon City. Added
to my experience this year was my visit to the various schools. I
met with principals, head teachers, students and parents. From
what I learned, this is the first time they were visited by a
kailian balikbayan. Also, this is the first time that an
association of Candon immigrants has helped these schools. The
school communities were appreciative and I can feel their feeling of
gratitude to Annak Ti Candon for helping their schools through its
Computerization Program. In some schools, I was asked to speak, and
I told them that the computer is only the beginning of Annak’s
commitment to improve education in Candon, and that more help is yet
to come.
What touched me
most, was the hospitality of the community and their feeling of
gratitude, evident in words and actions. They are inviting, and
hoping, that Annak members will visit their schools someday!
If a picture
paints a thousand words, these pictures say it all.
